European and World Championships, the greatest International Tournaments representing various sports take place on the arena of the Complex.
Precisely in St. Petersburg Sports and Concert Complex in 1984, there was the match in which the Leningrad football club Zenit became the Champion of the USSR. After winning the Cup trophies Zenit has started the tradition to meet football fans in the Complex. In 1994, during the Goodwill Games, the arena of the Complex held competitions in four sports at once: basketball, handball, gymnastics and wrestling.
One of the greatest events held in the Complex is the annual Martial Arts Olympics East-West Open. In 2011, the event assembled about nine thousand athletes from 54 countries. The competition involved 35 martial arts at 20 sports grounds.
